SNMP Enterprise OID's
( Private Enterprise Number (PEN) )
Preface
Companies that are providing MIB tables related to the product’s need to request “Enterprise OID“ from “IANA“ (Internet Assigned Number) . In this way each provider of MIB table has the possibility to manage all his OID’s inside of his “name space“.
Main benefit of this is that in the case that each provider of MIB file has his dedicated “name space“
- It is possible to use in parallel several MIB files provided at several different vendors without any conflict.
- For vendor is really easy to extend his list of OID’s as he is managing his “name space“. According to this only vendor is responsible for managing OID’s in his “name space”
