Benefit of coaxial cabling was that it was:
- Possible to use this infrastructure for long distance up to 500 meters with using 50ohm (Ω) coaxial cable.
- It was not required to use switch or hub for L2 broadcast domain as it was possible to use just T connector s at etch node and connect one node (PC) to more as one neighbor . In this way it was possible to create ” Coaxial Bus Topology”.
- On another hand the maximal speed was up to 10Mbit/s.
- It was required to use ” CSMA /CD” to prevent collisions .

According to this devices using mentioned 50ohm (Ω) coaxial infrastructure have been used for infrastructure long distance connections as well it was used at standard office cabling. In this cause the cable construction is the same like at UTP cable but all 8 wire lines (4 twisted pares) are pleased in metallic (mostly aluminium) foil as well the whole cable is protected with plastic case.

Today you are still able to find devices using mentioned infrastructure but most of the users have historical reasons to use this infrastructure. This type of cabling infrastructure was replaced with Optical or Twisted Pare cabling infrastructure. That is providing higher speed.

Twisted Pare cable - TP

Interference protection with twisting:

The main interference protection at TP cable is provided at construction of the cable, based on the twisting of wires. In this way it is possible to prevent of electromagnetic induction between wires, as it is preventing of straight parallel running wires for long distance.

UTP Unshielded Twisted Pair In this cause the cable has 8 wire lines (4 twisted pares). Mentioned lines are only in plastic case without any metallic shielding. The interference protection is provided only with twisting of the cables between etch other.
FTP Foiled twisted pair In this cause the cable construction is similar to UTP cable but all 8 wire lines (4 twisted pares) are pleased in metallic (mostly aluminium) foil as well the whole cable is protected with plastic case.
STP Shielded Twisted Pair In this cause the cable construction is similar to FTPbut in this cause STP cable has as between Foil and plastic case one more shielding called “braided shielding”.
